Open Scale

  This installation work was presented during an open studio at an Artist-in-Residence in Rotterdam. After thoroughly researching the Blaak Market, the biggest market in Rotterdam, Sasahara proceeded to recreate the dynamics of the market place inside the empty studio space constructing models of “temporal roofs” (tents) in various scales. The constructions were built so that during the exhibition visitors could walk inside and around them freely. The tents were scaled to fit the confounds of the residence, varying from tents as small as 1/10 of the original size to 3 times as big as the original market stalls.

本作は、ロッテルダムでのアーティストインレジデンスでのオープンスタジオ形式によるプロジェクトおよびインスタレーションであり、同都市中央市場の一つであるBlaakMarketをリサーチすることから制作は始められた。 プロジェクトは、空っぽのスタジオ内に市場のダイナミズムを再現することを目的として進められ、造形物として市場の「仮設の屋根」を模したテントをさまざまなスケールで制作した。 展示では鑑賞者がテントの内外を自由に闊歩できるように設えた。レジデンス内のモノに合わせてスケーリングされたそれらのテントは、結果的に1/10程度の小さいものから、通常の3倍の大きさのスケールのものとなった。
